ORA-600 [srsnext_1] when running 9.2 on AIX 5.2 [ID 262851.1]

Applies to:
Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 9.2
AIX5L Based Systems (64-bit)
"Checked for relevance on 08-Mar-2007"

JFS2 filesystem mounted with CIO option (introduced with AIX 5.2)
Symptoms
If tempfiles are located on a JFS2 filesystem mounted with the CIO (Concurrent I/O) option, introduced with AIX 5.2, then you might see ORA-600 [srsnext_1] being raised when extents are allocated in the tempfile, eg. when doing large sort operations.

Use the "mount" command to check for filesystems with CIO option:

$ /usr/sbin/mount | grep cio
Then check if any tempfiles are located on any of these filesystems:

SQL> select name from v$tempfile;

Cause
Problem has been investigated through bug:3391122 and was found to be caused by a problem in AIX fixed by the APAR:
IY56024: CIO WRITE RETURNS INCORRECT LENGTH

Solution
To get a permanent fix for the problem, please apply the APAR mentioned above. As an interim solution you may want to avoid having tempfiles residing on a JFS2 filesystem mounted with CIO option (there has not been any reports of this problem being encountered with regular datafiles).
